Deliciously Yorkshire winners announced
NORTH YORKSHIRE food businesses were among the winners at a Deliciously Yorkshire Awards ceremony last night.
The ceremony, which included a drinks reception and a banquet that featured many of the shortlisted foods, was guest hosted by seasoned food award judge and BBC broadcaster Nigel Barden, who brought his wealth of foodie expertise to the event.
“We’re always amazed by the hidden gems lurking on the dining tables and in the delis of Yorkshire,” said Mr Barden, a former Yorkshire wine merchant.
“Tonight was our chance to honour these food heroes for their hard work and talent and get their name out there. They thoroughly deserve these tasty trophies.”
Other winners include Sloe Motion – a York-based sloe whiskey company that came away with the prize for best drink; and Mercers of Yorkshire, York, for best sweet preserve with their blackcurrant conserve.
In the business categories, local food hero was awarded to Andrew Voakes, for Voakes Pies, based in Whixley, near York; and best Yorkshire breakfast went to Lovesome Hill Farm in Northallerton.
