Teenage pedestrian dies from injuries suffered in collision with taxi in Sunderland
A TEENAGE pedestrian has died in hospital from injuries suffered in a collision with a taxi.
Sarah Jane Burke, 17, of Cleveland Road, Sunderland, suffered a serious head injury and multiple fractures to her arms and legs after the collision near Barnes Park, in the city, last Tuesday (September 17).
She was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, where she was initially in a coma, but Northumbria Police confirmed she died over the weekend.
David Mark Baillie, a 39-year-old taxi driver, was arrested and subsequently charged with dangerous driving.
He appeared at the city’s magistrates’ court, last Thursday (September 19).
Mr Baillie, of Magdalene Place, Sunderland, was bailed to appear at Newcastle Crown Court, on October 3.
Police are still investigating the incident, which took place in Ormonde Street, at 5.30pm on Tuesday.
