3:49pm Monday 23rd September 2013 in News
A NEW theatre school is opening for budding young performers.
Mulholland Avenue Theatre School, run by Chantel Mulholland, will be based in the Fulforth Centre, Front Street, Sacriston. Sessions will be held on Saturdays and Thursdays from October 5 for youngsters aged four to 17.
Miss Mulholland said: “We are working towards a musical theatre show such as Lion King, Bugsy Malone, Chicago, Oliver and many more.
“The Fulflorth Centre have asked if we can perform at their Christmas light switch-on. “It is basically combining acting singing and dancing styles, which mainly focus on musical theatre, but incorporate current styles such as street and hip hop, with a modern twist on the classics. “Once there are quite a few pupils we will do free shows in residential homes in the area.”
On Saturdays, between 9 and 10.30am, sessions will be held for four to seven-year-olds, and from 10.45am to 12.15pm for eight to 12-year-olds. Classes on Thursdays between 4.15 and 6.15pm are for 13 to 17-year-olds.
Saturday sessions cost £8 and Thursdays £10.
