Police name woman murdered in Boldon, South Tyneside as Gemma Finnegan, 24
POLICE have named a woman found murdered in South Tyneside.
She is Gemma Finnegan, aged 24, of Church View, Boldon, in South Tyneside. Police were called to her home at 11.05am on Friday, September 13, and discovered her body. She was declared dead at the scene.
A 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, remains in custody, helping police with their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Barron, who is leading the enquiry, said: "We want to hear from anyone who saw Gemma or who was in contact with her between Thursday, September 12, and Friday, September 13.
"Also, we would ask anyone who was in the area of Church View, Boldon over that same period who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, or out of the ordinary to call police straightaway.
"This information will help our enquiry to build up a picture of what happened to Gemma in the period leading up to her death.
"Officers believe those involved were known to each other."
Chief Superintendent Ian Dawes, South Tyneside area commander said: "Extra officers are in the area around Church View to speak to local residents and provide reassurance.
"If anyone has any concerns, or to pass any information onto police, they can speak to officers in the area face to face or by ringing 101. People can also pass information on anonymously via Crimestoppers if they wish on 0800 555 111."
