Un poi - North-East narrowly gymnasts miss out on Euro-jackpot
A TROUPE of North-East gymnasts has narrowly missed out on winning 100,000 euros in a French TV talent show.
Acropolis, eight acrobatic gymnasts from Deerness Gymnastics Academy, in Ushaw Moor, County Durham, were runners up in the final of The Best: Le Meilleur Artiste, broadcast tonight (Friday, September 13) on French TV channel TF1.
The gymnasts, aged 13 to 22, fell one point short of winning the top prize of 100,000 euros, which went to an act named Chilly and Fly.
Acropolis, who won the public vote section, were invited to take part after winning ITV’s Let’s Get Gold last year.
They performed a routine to the backing of Michael Buble’s cover version of Cry Me A River.
Coach Stuart Thompson said: “This is a great achievement. To come second with such an array of talent on show is unbelievable.
“We didn’t win the big prize money that would have been so beneficial to our club but our young gymnasts will never forget the experience and the amazing reactions from the audience and jury.”
