BILLINGHAM Golf Club is celebrating the announcement of £50,000 of National Lottery Funding from Sport England.
The money will be spent on a new all-weather practice area and coaching facility including covered practice areas, and new access path.
Stockton Borough Council worked with Billingham Golf Club to make the successful application and it is hoped the improvements will mean golf will be played more often in the winter months.
Eric Martin, chairman of Billingham Golf Club, said: “We are always keen to welcome new guests and members to the club and hope the planned new facilities will be used by the entire community and local schools.
“The new facility, along with all the existing facilities will be available to the general public, as it is now, either by application for membership or temporary membership on payment of a green fee.
“We are planning a grand opening day with free Golf Taster sessions when the project is complete in spring 2014."
The proposed new facilities are subject to planning permission, and the application will be publicised to give neighbouring residents the opportunity to make comments.
