12:21pm Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
A MAN has been arrested after allegedly attacking his own pet dog as he walked through a busy city centre.
Police and the RSPCA are investigating after the incident in York last Sunday afternoon.
It is believed that a number of people witnessed the man hit his Staffordshire bull terrier a number of times outside the Perfume Shop on Spurriergate at around 2.30pm.
Following the incident, he walked off up High Ousegate and was arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and a public order offence.
The man, who is aged 38 and from Scarborough, was released on police bail after questioning. His dog is now in the care of the RSPCA.
Now officers are appealing to anyone who was on Spurriergate at the time of the incident and saw what happened, to come forward with information.
