FIRE crews were needed to help two men off a boat and into an ambulance when they broke both their legs in rough seas.
Fire fighters with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the Marina Boatyard in Whitby to help the two stricken men into a waiting ambulance just after midday today (Friday, September 6).
The casualties were fishing crew. According to a spokeswoman for the fire service, they had been travelling in a boat from Whitby to a larger vessel further out to sea.
But when their boat hit a large wave in the bad weather, the impact was so severe it broke their legs.
The vessel turned back to shore and fire crews were needed to help ambulance staff get the men off the boat at Whitby.
They were lifted into an ambulance chair then onto stretchers and into a waiting ambulance.
It is believed the coastguard were not involved in the rescue.
