Woman, 45, assaulted in Sunderland
A 45-YEAR-old woman has been assaulted in Sunderland.
At 10.45am on Monday, September 2, the ambulance service informed police of concern for a woman after she was found injured in a garden of an address in Durham Road.
The woman was taken to hospital where she is in a serious condition.
It is thought the she had been assaulted at an address in Sandalwood Square in Grindon.
"Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen a woman over the weekend between Saturday, August 31 and Monday, September 2, aged in her 40s, approximately 5ft 1ins tall of large build with facial injuries. The woman may have seemed unsteady on her feet," a police spokeswoman said.
"In particular, officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in Gartland Road and Severoaks Drive from 3pm onwards on Saturday afternoon or Sunday.
"They are also keen to speak to anyone who was in Sandalwood Square in Grindon and Durham Road in Springwell on Monday morning and saw a woman wearing a dark coloured coat and a pair of jeans worn inside out, the woman may have been unsteady on her feet and walking slowly."
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on police bail.
The people involved are believed to be known to each other.
Officers are in the area both to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to residents.
