Man charged with making hoax call after firearm report to police in Wolsingham
A MAN has been charged with wasting police time after officers responded to an alleged hoax call involving a firearm in a County Durham town.
Armed officers were dispatched to the incident which was reported in Wolsingham in Weardale on Monday (September 2).
A spokesman for the Weardale Neighbourhood Policing Team: “On September 2 a call was made to police which involved the use of a firearm in the Wolsingham area.
“Armed officers were deployed as well as other resources.
“Investigation revealed that the call was in fact a hoax and police time and resources had been wasted.
“A male from Wolsingham was identified by the team and subsequently arrested.
“He has been charged with making the hoax call and wasting police time.
“He will appear in court in the near future to answer for his crime.
“Hoax calls not only waste time but can put lives at risk.
“As in the past we will deal with any offender very robustly for these offences.”
