A YOUNG man was left with serious facial injuries after he was attacked and bitten outside a North-East sports bar.

A chunk of flesh was bitten from the victim’s face during the assault outside DL5 Sports and Lounge Bar at Newton Aycliffe in County Durham at 2.15 am on Monday, August 26.

The 22-year-old, who lives in Newton Aycliffe, has attended numerous hospital appointments following the attack but, at this stage, is not thought to need plastic surgery.

An 18-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Georgina Lewis said there had been quite a lot of people outside the Central Avenue bar when the attack occurred.

“This was a horrible assault and I would urge anyone who witnessed it to get in touch,” she added.
