American tourist suffers serious injuries after car plunges 300ft off Lake District pass

An American tourist suffered serious injuries after her car plunged 300ft down a valley.
The 60-year-old woman was driving through the Lake District when her Silver Mercedes C180 left the road at Wrynose Pass, near Ambleside.
The woman, who had been heading to Yorkshire to visit friends, was airlifted to hospital in Newcastle with serious injuries.
The accident happened at around 1pm on Friday, August 30, and was attended by police, fire and rescue, the North West Air Ambulance and the Royal Air Force.
The road was closed for four hours as officers dealt with the incident.
