Hartlepool man with record stretching back 23 years is jailed for handling stolen goods
A MAN with a criminal record going back 23 years has been jailed for 12 months after he admitting handling stolen goods taken in two separate burglaries.
Anthony Foster, 36, was told by Judge George Moorhouse that he had an appalling record - consisting largely of burglary, theft, handling and dishonesty.
He also had hidden in his home an Indian head figurine, a Mike Tyson picture and a Freeview digital box which were taken during another burglary in the town.
Foster, of Allerton Close, Hartlepool, admitted two counts of handling stolen goods, between April 14 and 20 this year.
Jim Withyman, mitigating, said: "He was given an opportunity to take these items and he foolishly took it.
“He wasn't involved in the burglaries and apologises to the court.”
He added that Foster was not currently taking illicit drugs and had been prescribed the heroin substitute methadone.
Jailing him for a year, Judge George Moorhouse told Foster: “You have an appalling record and the time has come to deprive you of your liberty.”
