Family fun day for outdoor gym launch in South Park
12:04pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
Families and fitness enthusiasts are invited to a special fun day for the official opening of an outdoor gym.
The specialist outdoor gym equipment has been installed in Darlington’s South Park and includes a chest press, leg press and an air skier.
The official launch event will take place between 11am and 1pm on Thursday in South Park, Darlington and will include a free taster session for Nordic Walking, an activity similar to trekking.
Children are encouraged to come to the gym dressed as their favourite sports personalities where they can take part in fun activities such as the egg and spoon race, launching rockets and tower building.
The free gym will be officially opened by the Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Charles Johnson, who said: “Outdoor gyms are a brilliant way for people to get fit, especially if they don’t enjoy exercising in a gym.
“The Friends of the South Park and the Ranger team have done a great job getting funding and consulting with people to find out what they would like and I hope many people take advantage of the equipment”
The gym was funded by the Dulverton Trust. The Friends of the South Park hope to raise further funding to expand the equipment in the near future if the outdoor facilities are a success.
