TEENAGE cancer battler Kieran Maxwell has received a boost from his favourite band the Stereophonics as he recovers from surgery.

The 15-year-old, from Heighington, underwent an operation to remove a cancerous tumour from his lung last week.

To try and cheer him up, his mum Nicola used Twitter to contact the Stereophonics and Nickleback – Kieran’s two favourite bands –and was delighted when the Stereophonics replied with an offer for Kieran to attend their Newcastle concert in November.

Mrs Maxwell said Kieran was “bouncing round the room” with excitement when he saw the message which read: “Hi Kieran. Get well soon buddy, from all of us in the Stereophonics. Come along to the Newcastle gig in Nov, our guest.”

Mrs Maxwell said: “I had sent them a message explaining that he was fighting cancer for the second time and just hoped that they might send one back to cheer him up a bit.

“I didn’t expect the invite at all, it was a lovely thing for them to do and it made Kieran so happy.”

Kieran described the message as “absolutely amazing” and said he hopes he is well enough to attend the concert at Newcastle’s Metro arena on November 16.

The teenager has already fought off cancer once after having his leg amputated in 2010.

Since then the Paralympic hopeful has put his energies into his passion for gymnastics and it was a huge blow for the family when they discovered in May that the cancer had returned.

Kieran will now undergo another course of chemotherapy following last week’s operation.
