Buying a dress ends up benefiting Barnardos North East by £9,000
AN impromptu dress purchase has resulted in a summer ball raising more than £9,000 for charity.
Catherine Marshall picked up a bargain, but did not have anywhere to wear it, so decided to rope in friends Nina Fryer and David Conway to organise a ball.
As the idea began to grow, the Teesside trio decided to turn it into a fundraising ball for Barnardos North-East and the night proved a success with £9,120 raised for the charity.
Fundraiser Nina Fryer said: “We would like to thank all our sponsors and everyone who bought a ticket. Our original dream was 100 ticket sales and a fundraising target of £2,000.
“To have hosted 150 guests and raise more than £9,000 is a dream come true. We are overwhelmed with the success of the event and are pleased that we are able to help a very worthwhile charity.”
The team secured donations from supporters across the north-east, which enabled them to raise funds beyond their original target.
At the event at Gisborough Hall, Guisborough, guests were entertained by Spencer Wood Magic and The Beer Pigs before entering the Summer Ball Casino.
Philip Taylor, vice president of Barnardo’s, said: "The team has done an amazing job and we are very proud of their achievement. We are grateful to the sponsors and guests for their generous contribution and are pleased that children and their families in the North East will benefit from our support.”
Following the success of the inaugural Summer Ball, the trio have already begun preparations for The Summer Ball 2014, details of which will be announced in coming weeks.
