Double world and Olympic champion Mo Farah to start Bupa Great North 5k
2:53pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
DOUBLE world and Olympic champion Mo Farah will be the honorary starter for the Bupa Great North Run weekend.
The record-breaking athlete will officially start the Bupa Great North 5k, the curtain-raising run held the day before the popular half marathon.
Twice before, Farah has helped start the Great North Run itself, but as he is taking part in the race for the first time this year, has been chosen to fire the gun at the start of the shorter distance run.
He said: "I might not have to high five as many people as I did when I helped start the Bupa Great North Run the last two years, but it will be great fun to offer runners encouragement and support at the event".
The Bupa Great North 5k takes place on Saturday, September 14, with the Bupa Great North Run taking place on Sunday, September 15.
