A MAN has admitted trying to steal jewellery from his grandmother’s home before spitting in her face and damaging property.

Jonathon David Adcock was charged with burglary at the premises in Langley Road, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, taking two rings and a bracelet, on Saturday June 8.

But Adcock admitted theft as an alternative which prosecution barrister, Paul Currer, said was considered “acceptable”, during a short hearing at Durham Crown Court today (Wednesday August 21).

He also admitted assaulting his 67-year-old grandmother, June Adcock, by spitting, plus three charges of damaging property, all on the same day.

Two of those were a wall clock and the front door at his grandmother’s house, while the third was a police car in which he was taken following his arrest.

His barrister, Mark Styles, requested preparation of a Probation Service background report on Adcock before sentence.

Agreeing, Recorder Neil Davey adjourned sentence, “with all options remaining open”.

Twenty-two-year-old Adcock, of Victoria Street, Shildon, was bailed to return to the court to learn his fate on Thursday September 12.
