Ark finds homes for 20 guinea pigs after plight highlighted in the Northern Echo
AN animal sanctuary has found homes for 20 guinea pigs after their plight was highlighted in The Northern Echo.
The Ark on the Edge, near Woodland, in Teesdale, is attempting to rehome dozens of the cuddly critters after their unfortunate owner, from Bishop Auckland, found herself inundated with almost 70 after a gender mix-up.
She originally purchased three guinea pigs thinking they were all female, but unfortunately, one turned out to be a male.
The Ark's Pat Kingsnorth said: “We have rehomed all 20 to excellent accommodation and we are hoping to help rehome some more for the lady.”
She said the big problem now was finding homes for the centre's cats.
The Ark is inviting visitors and supporters along on Saturday, August 31, to meet its feline fundraiser Dylan.
The overweight cat is nearing the end of a sponsored diet in aid of the Ark, which is offering a free weight check for pets between 10am and 3pm.
