Pool, darts and dominoes fundraiser could top £2,000

ORGANISERS of an annual pool, darts and dominoes charity tournament are hopeful that it will once again raise more than £2,000 for a Darlington hospice.
Cancer patient Angela Carbert arranged the event, at Darlington Institute, in Northgate, on Saturday (August 17), to swell the coffers of St Teresa’s Hospice.
The 44-year-old, who has been told there is no more treatment available for her cancer, said more than £750 was raised on Saturday.
Further donations from high street banks and businesses in Darlington will boost the funds raised, with a forthcoming charity auction likely to push the total towards £2,000.
Miss Carbert said organising the fundraiser was a ‘team effort’ and thanked those who helped host it.
She said: “I will be chuffed if we raise more than £2,000.
“I am not doing too bad, there is no more treatment for me now, I have got two tumours, so it is just a matter of time.”
Saturday’s event was the fourth annual fundraiser Miss Carbert has organised and she said she will continue to do so in the future as long as her health allows.
About 30 people attended the fundraiser, with prizes of cash and beer tokens for the winners.
A presentation event will be held after Christmas, at which the cheque for the final amount raised will be handed over to hospice representatives.
