Investigation work ahead of car park development

SITE investigation work for a proposed multi storey car park is set to start next week on Beaumont Street North car park, in Darlington town centre. The work will start on Wednesday (August 21) and is set to end on Tuesday, September 3. Darlington Borough Council said disruption to car park users will be kept to a minimum, althoughit is envisaged that two or three spaces in different areas of the car park will need to be sectioned off to enable investigation works to be undertaken safely.
DRIVING BAN: Stephen Warren Allport, 42, of Westcliffe Court, Darlington, appeared at Darlington Magistrates’ Court in Thursday (August 15) and admitted drink driving. He crashed his green Honda Accord into bollards on Salters Lane South, in the early hours of June 8. District judge Adrian Lower said it was fortunate he had not hit a pedestrian or another vehicle. Allport was banned from driving for three years.
STORY TIME: Young book-worms are set to get a treat on Friday, August 30, when children’s author Charlotte Jones pops into Crown Street library, in Darlington, to run a very special story time. Her new book, ‘The Enchanted Grandfather’s Clock’, was a family affair, illustrated by her daughter Parisa. She will be inviting children aged seven to 12 to design a book cover for a cash prize and a signed copy of Charlotte’s book. Multi-talented Charlotte, who is from Darlington, is a qualified-nurse, teacher and coach, as well as a writer.
SHOE SHOP: A branch of Brantano Footwear opens on the Neasham Road Retail Park, in Darlington, on Tuesday (August 16), with the creation of 16 jobs.
