Advice on hand for A-level students
ITS A-level results day today and thousands of young people will find out what grades they have got.
While most students will get the results they need for the university or college course of their choice, universities across the North-East have released information for those who have either under-performed and failed to secure a place or have exceeded expectations and are looking for a better course.
The advice from the Universities and Colleges Admission Service (Ucas) is that anyone has fallen short grades should call their first choice university and ask if they will be accepted.
Applicants should visit the UCAS website from 8am today to see if they have been accepted or are eligible for Clearing. They will also receive an email from UCAS confirming their status.
An official Clearing choice can be made from 5pm although applicants should call universities and colleges beforehand to discuss courses that interest them and ensure that places are available.
Go to ucas.com/clearing or call the UCAS helpline on 0871 4680468 For general advice you can also contact the Exam Results Helpline 0808 100 8000.
DURHAM UNIVERSITY: A spokeswoman said: "The likelihood of any vacancies will depend on the forthcoming results for applicants currently holding conditional offers with Durham University, as we have more applicants holding firm offers with us than places available.
"Once we have placed applicants who meet the conditions of our offers - and if we have any places left at that point - they will be filled by applicants with the greatest merit and potential."
