Man remains in critical condition following hit-and-run accident in Ushaw Moor
A 21-YEAR-OLD Tow Law man remains in a critical condition today (Monday, August 12) after suffering multiple injuries in a hit-and-run in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The pedestrian was struck by what is believed to have been a new-style black Ford Fiesta on the B6302 Cockhouse Lane, in Ushaw Moor, near Durham City, at about 2.30am.
A police spokesman said the victim who had been a passenger of a Renault Clio was standing with another passenger at the back of the car when he was struck, 25 yards to the east of Joyce Terrace.
The victim was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI), in Newcastle, where his condition was this morning described as critical but stable.
The second passenger standing outside the car was not injured.
Police believe the Ford Fiesta, which was travelling eastward, will have damage to the front offside bonnet, headlamp or bumper.
The road was closed for several hours.
Witnesses are asked to call the collision investigation team on 0191-3752159.
