Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after being hit by car near Bishop Auckland
A PEDESTRIAN has been seriously injured after he was hit by a car during the early hours of this morning (Sunday, August 11).
The accident occurred on the A689 Toronto bypass, near Bishop Auckland, in County Durham at around 12.40am.
A Volkswagen Passat was travelling east towards Bishop Auckland when a 27-year-old local man appeared out of the darkness on the carriageway.
The car collided with the pedestrian, who suffered serious multiple injuries and is being treated at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The Passat driver, a 47-year-old man from the Bishop Auckland area, escaped uninjured.
The A689 was closed in both directions for five hours following the accident.
