CULT classic the Rocky Horror Show will have lingerie-clad audiences dancing in the aisles when it rolls into the region this week.

A 40th anniversary production of the lively musical, which sees a clean-cut couple caught up in a risque adventure, is at Darlington’s Civic Theatre until Saturday.

The show, which introduced classic songs like The Timewarp to the masses, will see West End star Oliver Thornton take on the role of transvestite Frank N Furter, as played by Tim Curry in a 1975 film adaptation.

He said: “It is a hugely iconic role and it was nerve wracking to begin with as I had some really big shoes to fill. But I’ve made it my own now.

“I don’t have to do much, the audiences already love Frank, he has got a bit of everything and it’s great playing a character audiences respond to so well.

“Rocky Horror has a cult following for a reason. It is all about being true to yourself and not conforming.

“A lot of people, especially those growing up in small towns like I did, who did not conform, can identify with it.

“On the other hand, it is also a fun, party show. People can get dressed up with their friends and come along for a great night out.”

The new production of the show also stars Ben Forster, as Brad, and Dani Harmer, as Janet. The narrator will be played by Heartbeat star Philip Franks.

Tickets start at £19.50 and can be bought from the box office on 01325- 486555.
