A PUNK rocker has put his lifetime collection of rare Sex Pistols memorabilia up for sale.

Mark Wilson, who runs an antiques business in Low Fell, Gateshead, has filled his home with collectors’ items dedicated to the pioneering punk band.

Among the items going under the hammer is a newspaper article signed by the late Sid Vicious, an original manuscript for "Who Killed Bambi" and a Seditionaries shirt by Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood, as well as posters, records and autographs acquired back stage.

The 50 lots are expected to raise around £10,000 when they go up for sale at Newcastle auctioneers Anderson and Garland on July 23.

Mr Wilson said he had no intention of building up a collection when he got his first piece of memorabilia back in 1976.

He said: "It seemed to take on a life of its own - I hadn’t made a conscious decision to fill my home with Sex Pistols memorabilia but over the years, one item led to another.

"Almost every room in our house was crammed with various bits and pieces such as posters and record sleeves, but having had many years of enjoyment, it’s now time to pass the collection on and let someone else benefit."

The money raised from the sale will be invested in the business he runs with wife Sandra.

Auctioneer Fred Wyrley-Birch said: "Many of the items are extremely rare with autographed memorabilia, especially by iconic figures no longer with us, and this type of thing always generates a significant amount of interest".
