YOUNG cricketers will get extra help to hit the perfect shot thanks to a donation from the Co-op.

Hunwick Cricket Club will use £1,000 donated by the Durham area branch of the Co-op to buy a bowling machine.

John Proud, from the club, said: “It will be great for the kids because it is very difficult to show them what to do when they are getting six different balls.”

The cricket club, which is teaching the sport to pupils at Hunwick Primary School, St John’s School and Sixth Form College, in Bishop Auckland, and Wolsingham School and Community College, has also received £500 from Dale and Valley Homes and the Three Towns Area Action Partnership to go towards the £2,500 machine.

It currently has an under- 13s team, but is looking to start an under-11s side.

Audrey Lax and Pat Buttle, from the Co-op, said they were delighted to present the money to the club. The Durham area committee has given out more than £46,000 to community causes since April.
