DURHAM Free School, which is opening in the current Durham Gilesgate Sports College, in Gilesgate, Durham, in September, has held an induction day. Around 30 future pupils attended the event, held at East Durham College’s Houghall campus. The school will begin with 40 year seven pupils, split into two classes. MP’S THANKS: Durham City MP Roberta Blackman-Woods has thanked outgoing Durham Johnston School headteacher Carolyn Roberts for her dedication and hard work while in the post. Mrs Roberts will leave this summer after eight years to become head of Thomas Tallis School, in Greenwich, London. Dr Blackman-Woods said she had been a fantastic headteacher and done a huge amount to maintain and further the school’s national reputation and top-class results.
CHARITY LUNCH: St Patrick’s church hall, on Victoria Street, Consett, will be the venue for a charity lunch in aid of Cash for Kids on Saturday (July 20). The event will run from 11.30am to 1.30pm. Entry is free, with donations welcome. The organisers are Colin Richardson, Diane Rutter and David Arbon.
