A DANCE school’s annual summer show wowed the audience with routines spanning almost nine decades of style.

Aycliffe Dance Academy’s show crammed routines from the 1930s to present day into two hours of entertainment at the Xcel Centre, on Aycliffe Business Park, yesterday (Saturday, July 6).

In total 144 dancers from toddlers to adults performed a range of styles including musical theatre, street dance and routines inspired by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the Spice Girls and PJ and Duncan.

The academy, which is based at The Bethany Centre, in Woodham, usually performs its summer extravaganza at Greenfield School and Community Arts College, in Newton Aycliffe.

But after performing to sell out crowds of 250 for the last two years it moved to the Xcel Centre this year so more people could enjoy the show.

Principal and show director, Emma Cox, said: “It was a brilliant show.

“The kids especially loved it, they were buzzing, and there were many proud parents.

“Quite a lot of members of the public came and the performers were delighted that Great Aycliffe Mayor Barbara Clare and her husband John watched them and commented on how talented, well disciplined and hard working they were.”

Miss Cox thanked everyone who helped with the show including parents, chaperones and fellow choreographers Cassie Todd, Robyn Scott and Nikki Brodhurst.
