The tea really will be up - 3,500ft to be exact - when Carli McNaughton stages a high altitude charity fundraiser, writes Graham Corking.
For the 26-year-old is hosting her very own tea party on top of Mount Snowdon in Wales with the aim of raising £1,000 for Teesside Hospice.
Carli, who runs The Olde Young Teahouse in Middlesbrough, will be joined on the top of Britain's second highest peak by fellow walkers.
“I’m going to be making ten teas for my companions. It’s going to be a challenge but it is for a good cause,” she said.
Jane O’Byrne, fund raising manager for the Hospice said: “I think it is a wonderful and novel idea. Many people have climbed mountains for charity, but there has been nothing quite like this.
“Carli is someone who has supported the hospice with frequent donations and has a strong link to us.”
The hospice faces running costs in excess of £2.2 million a year and must raise £4,600 every day to continue to stay open.
In preparation for the climb, Carli, of Saltburn, east Cleveland, has been conquering some of the North–East’s favourite hills, such as Roseberry Topping.
Miss McNaughton said: “I’m not very fit, I rarely exercise and I eat cake all the time, but once I have done a hike I feel great.”
