A NURSERY manager has donated nine inches of hair to a charity that provides wigs for children affected by cancer.

A large crowd gathered to see hairdresser Zoe Burleigh take her scissors to Jan Cooper’s luscious locks at The House of Eden Nursery summer fair in Newton Aycliffe on Saturday, June 29.

Ms Hooper, senior nursery manager, has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs and hairpieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The 57-year-old also raised more than £300 in sponsorship, which will enable the charity to create a synthetic wig for another child in need.

Mrs Hooper said: “It is a nice feeling to be able to help such a worthwhile cause.

“I had thought I would only be able to donate seven inches of hair so to be able donate nine is wonderful.

“I really like my new hair style but is taking a bit of getting used to.”

Visitors to the summer fair were also treated to face-painting, cake stalls, tombola, pony rides and a bouncy castle.

The £500 raised at the fair will be put towards the nursery graduation ceremony on July 10.
