GREEN-FINGERED youngsters have been getting their hands dirty to help prepare for a flower show.

The group of pupils from High Coniscliffe CE Primary School visited Sam Turner and Sons garden centre, in Piercebridge, to pot plants for the festival, which will be held at St Edwin’s Church, in High Coniscliffe, near Darlington, later this month.

The pots were planted by Eliza Wilkinson, 11, Joshua Swain, ten, James Elliott, Mia Forden, both seven, Noah Stand, Kate Neasham, both six, Neve Cooper and Maisey Metcalfe, both five and will line the path leading up to the church throughout the three-day festival.

They will later be judged by staff from the garden centre and the winner will be announced at the church service on Sunday, June 30.

Flower show committee member, Sue Manners, said: “It was a great day, they really enjoyed it, especially getting their hands dirty. They were so interested in everything and very well behaved.”

The flower festival celebrates the past, present and future of the church and its community and runs from 10am to 6pm on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29 and from noon to 5pm on Sunday, June 30.

Entry is £3 and refreshments are available.
