A COLLECTION of vintage vehicles are driving interest at a North-East auctioneers where they are about to fall under the hammer.

Eight vintage vehicles including a 1933 Jowett van used in Catherine Cookson films and a rare 1931 Armstrong Siddeley Convertible are expected collectively to make up to £20,000 when they go under the hammer at Newcastle’e Anderson and Garland.

The vehicles, which are being sold by the widow of an avid collector, were housed in a garage on Tyneside.

They will form part of the Fine Art and Antiques sale from Tuesday June 18 to Friday June 21.

As well as the van and sports convertible, there are two 1948 Brockhouse Corgi Motorcycles, a Mobylette Moped, a 1976 Triumph Stag, a 1965 Wolseley Hornet and a 1935 BSA model B2 249cc motorcycle.

BSA motorcycles were produced from the 1930s until the end of the 1970s and at its peak, BSA was the largest motorbike producer in the world. Rod Meek of Anderson and Garland said: “The gentleman who collected these vehicles evidently had a passion for them as his workshop was full of all sorts of parts gathered across the years.

“The Jowett van has a rather nice history having appeared in at least one of the Catherine Cookson films produced here in the North-East and this is expected to make around £3,000.

“The Armstrong Siddeley is in barn condition and requires a full restoration.

“We believe it to be a convertible and we are actually busy researching its provenance to try and learn a little more about it because it’s very unusual to find these as a sports coupé.”
