This five-CD box set in ECM’s series of Old & New Masters is issued to mark Charles Lloyd’s recent 75th birthday. The five discs, recorded between 1989 and 1996, include his comeback album Fish Out of Water, recorded after a long absence from the jazz scene.
Throughout the set he’s accompanied by pianist Bobo Stenson, whose playing is remarkably lucid and supportive, with bass players Palle Danielson and Anders Jormin and drummers Jon Christensen, Ralph Peterson and Billy Hart. This is a consistently enjoyable set with a 32-page booklet containing informative notes by Thomas Conrad.
