FOUR golfing pals have set themselves the challenge of their toughest game yet – a 20-hour, 72-hole marathon.

Sean Holmes, Mark Terry, Graham Seilly and John Withinshaw plan to complete four rounds of golf in just one day to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The friends, all from the Thirsk area, all have personal reasons to tackle the challenge, with each of their families being affected by cancer in the past.

And they will be teeing off at Easingwold Golf Club at 5am on June 3 in the hope of raising as much as possible for the charity.

Support has come from AVL vehicle leasing in Stockton, Nigel Atkinson bathroom emporium in Thirsk and the Evans-Halshaw Citroen dealership in Leeds.

Playing as a team known as A Fore Mentioned, they originally set themselves a target of £500 but area already around the £1,100 mark.

Organiser Sean said: “The reason I am doing this challenge, is because sadly my mum passed away last year on my 25th birthday very suddenly from cancer.

“We were only told 2 days before she passed away that she had cancer, so we had no time to take in that she had cancer or to say our goodbyes to her.

“It all happened so quickly and still hasn't quite sunk in yet. I feel very strongly about this challenge and any difference I can make for this great cause.”
