POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a motorist escaped injury when his lorry was hit by an air gun pellet.

The lorry was hit at about 3pm on Saturday (April 6) as it was being driven on the A689 Coundon by-pass between the Bishop Auckland and Leasingthorne roundabout, County Durham.

PC Lianne Williamson, of Bishop Auckland Police, said: "Although the driver was uninjured he was left shaken by the incident.

“I would like to remind members of the public that it is illegal to carry a loaded air weapon in a public place and it is illegal to fire an air weapon within 15 metres of a road or street.”
