POLICE are appealing for help to trace a 13-year-old girl who has been missing since the weekend.

Megan Gibson was reported missing from her home in Tow Law, County Durham, at around 9.30pm on Saturday.

Although she is described as streetwise, police are concerned for her welfare due to her age.

She is described as 5ft 7in tall, of medium build with long blonde hair and blue eyes.

When last seen she was wearing a long sleeved white top, leopard print leggings, a black body warmer and black Barbour-style coat, black Ugg boots and was carrying a black handbag.

Megan is known to visit the Bishop Auckland, Shildon, Newton Aycliffe, Durham and Newcastle areas.

It is thought she may have been in touch with her natural mother but would not say where she was.

Anyone who knows her whereabouts is urged to contact Durham police on 101.

UPDATE: Megan Gibson found safe and well
