A YOUNG Scout leader will join a parade at Windsor Castle next month after being awarded the movement’s highest honour.
David Baker, of Carlton Miniott, Thirsk, said he was proud to receive the Queen’s Scout Award after 14 years as a member of the 1st Topcliffe Scout Group, and five years as a Scout Leader.
Mr Baker, who joined the movement aged six as a Beaver, assisted in the local voluntary Carlton Miniott Youth Club and spent two weeks working at an RSPB nature reserve for his community service elements of the award.

The 24-year-old had previously attained the Duke of Edinburgh Award Gold award, which qualified him to work towards the Queen’s Scout Award.
Mr Baker said: “I want to support others in working to achieve this award as well.
“I would recommend this to anyone who is up for a challenge and enjoys the outdoors and helping in the community. This is what Scouting is all about for me.”
