SOME of the country’s brightest university students came to Teesside today (Monday, March 18) to inspire the area’s school pupils.

Five undergraduates from Cambridge spoke to 14 to 15-year-olds at St Peter’s Catholic College in South Bank, Middlesbrough.

The students told of their life at the world-famous university in an attempt to inspire the youngsters to give it their all to get to a top university themselves.

Now the Cambridge students will go on to talk to teenagers at other schools across Teesside.

Kristy Gunerante, admissions and school liaison officer at King’s College, Cambridge, said “We are delighted to work with students at St Peter’s and really enjoyed listening to their ideas.
"We hope they will do very well in their futures and apply for the very best courses they can.”

Pamela Hanrahan, headteacher at St Peter’s, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for our students to hear inspirational advice from Cambridge University students and it reinforces the message I always give them: they can be whatever they want to be if they try hard.”

Gabrielle Appleton, Year 10 student at the school, said: “Working with the undergraduates from King’s College has given me a real insight into university life.
"When the time comes for me to apply for a university place, I will certainly look more closely at Cambridge.”
