Darlington homes affected by burst pipe see water supplies return

WATER supplies to residential properties in Darlington are expected to be reconnected within an hour.

A small number of homes were affected after an 18 inch diameter pipe burst in Parkside this afternoon.

Police closed the flooded road as firefighters pumped water away from homes.

A spokeswoman for Northumbrian Water said all properties should be reconnected by 9.30pm, although pressure may be low for a short time and the water may initially be discoloured.

She said: "We have had a 18 inch diameter pipe burst in Parkside.

"We cut off the supply quite quickly and although it does not supply properties directly it did disrupt the network.

"We would like to thank people for their patience as we appreciate Mother's Day is not a great day for a burst pipe."

Work is taking place tonight to restore the broken pipe.

Back on within 2 hours.... 5 hours so far and still no water here. Totally unacceptable. No information from them, nothing. Total disregard for paying customers.

It came back on over Moorfield about 20 minutes ago and on Harris Street a couple of minutes ago.

Plus, I initially called them to report our water was off and I had a text update and a phone call to say it was back on.

The burst pipe happened outside of my home and we contacted the emergency services because no one picked up the phone at Northumbrian water. This is not the first time they have let us down and to suggest they worked quite quickly is a total joke. I received a letter 3 days ago from Northumbrian water following the last 2 floods to my home to inform me that all work had been successfully carried out and no further work was necessary. Dreadful service yet again. I would however like to thank all members of the emergency services for their professional assistance.
