Motorway accident strands Fresh Meat stars after visit to Durham and Newcastle universities

STARS of the Channel 4 hit 'Fresh Meat' were stranded for hours following a motorway crash after departing the North-East while on a fundraising bus tour of universities for Comic Relief.
The actors, including comic Jack Whitehall, were held up for four hours on the M62 in West Yorkshire after a lorry hit the central reservation and shed its load of wiring.
The driver was uninjured in the smash but the westbound carriageway between junctions 23 and 22 at Saddleworth was closed for hours, causing traffic chaos.
It meant the Fresh Meat crew - which was completed by Greg McHugh, Kimberley Nixon, Joe Thomas and Zawe Ashton - had to abandon plans to visit Manchester and Sheffield universities.
During the hold-up Whitehall tweeted: "So we have been stuck on the M62 for three hours haven't moved so sorry to anyone that's waiting for us.
"We're stranded."
McHugh, who plays nerdy Howard, said: "We're not moving but we are trying as hard as we can to keep the fundraising total moving.
"We're so gutted and frustrated to be stuck in traffic and have missed the chance to meet students in Manchester and Sheffield that we have resorted to painting each other's faces."
They were making their way from Newcastle to Loughborough via different campuses along the way.
This morning the cast of the student-based comedy series served breakfast to bleary-eyed students, with Whitehall getting so hot in the canteen that he stripped to his undies.
He said: "I never had breakfast when I was at university - I don't think I ever got up in time."
They later raced tricycles at Durham University and delivered lectures to 550 students in Leeds.
Nixon spoke about Agatha Christie's Poirot, Whitehall chose to discuss Kriss Akabusi while McHugh opted to talk about the movie Jaws.
