A STUDENT theatre group is to stage a gruesome production in a market hall.

Another Soup Productions, a Durham University student-led company, has adapted a Sweeney Todd musical to stage it in Durham Indoor Market.

Sweeney Todd and the String of Pearls will see 20 actors and seven musicians taking their audience around the deserted stalls.

Director David Spencer said: “The Market Hall, out of hours, is ideal for creating an appropriately edgy ambience for the production.

“This production draws on elements of Victorian Music Hall, Vaudeville, gypsy folk and blues and more and promises to be a delight for all the senses, including the taste buds.”

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said: “It’s wonderful that the historic Market Hall has been part of the inspiration behind this new production.”

The show will run from March 5 to 9, with performances at 7.30pm and 9.30pm each night.

Tickets are limited to 30 per show and priced £6 for adults, £5 for concessions and £4.50 for Durham Student Theatre members. To book, visit dur.ac.uk/theatre
