A SPENNYMOOR man has been charged with 20 offences, including burglary, theft and dangerous driving.

Michael Thomas Collier, of Moorside, appeared by video link from Holme House Prison in Stockton-on-Tees, at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, February 27.)

The 33-year-old faces nine charges of theft, including the theft of a motor vehicle in Sunderland on February 15 and two charges of theft from a shop in Durham on February 6 and 7.

He is also alleged to have stolen six handbags in the Bishop Auckland area of County Durham and Boroughbridge in North Yorkshire between January 2 and February 15.

Other charges include making off without pavement in Bishop Auckland on January 25, three burglaries of dwellings in Sunderland, Bishop Auckland and Darlington earlier this month, and the burglary of Co-op in Ushaw Moor, County Durham, on February 12.

Mr Collier is also alleged to have driven a car without insurance or a licence, failing to stop his vehicle when directed to do so by a police officer, dangerous driving and assault causing actual bodily harm in Spennymoor, County Durham, on February 15.

Mr Collier was remanded in custody until his next case management hearing at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on March 27.

No pleas were entered.
