Pedestrian killed on East Coast Mainline

TRAIN services across the North-east were brought to a standstill tonight after a fatal incident.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a train on the East Coast Main Line close to Northallerton Railway Station just before 6.15pm.
The man was hit by the 1601 Edinburgh to Kings Cross train as it passed through North Yorkshire.
Accident investigators closed the station while the body was recovered from the trackside, leading to major disruption to services.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "The death is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
"Ambulance and Fire Service staff also attended the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A file will be prepared for the coroner."
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded on trains and at platforms as services were halted between York and Darlington.
Around a dozen train services suffered significant delays and two - the 1700 Edinburgh to Kings Cross and the 1347 Aberdeen to Kings Cross - were held up for more than two hours.
Emergency services worked to clear the scene of the accident and the line re-opened shortly before 9pm, although Northallerton Station itself will remain throughout the night.
A replacement bus service was set up between York and Newcastle and Middlesbrough, but with knock-on delays effecting much of the network across the North of England, National Rail warned passengers to expect delays of up to two hours and 40 minutes until the problems could be cleared.
The Rev Stephen Sorby, railway chaplain based at Darlington Station, Tweeted: "Please remember all affected by tonight's tragedy - BTP, NR, staff crews and all the deceased's family."
