Police warning after overnight snow
10:04am Saturday 23rd February 2013 in News
POLICE are warning motorists to take care and allow extra time for their journeys following snowfall overnight.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said motorists should be aware of icy patches, snow and wet and slippery roads, particularly on minor and untreated routes.
All main roads were passable but many secondary roads, particularly around Gateshead and Newcastle, had coverings of snow during the early hours of the morning.
The spokeswoman added: "Drivers should moderate their speed and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front as stopping distances are longer on wet or icy roads and try not to brake sharply.
"Ensure you have adequate visibility by clearing front and back windscreens and all windows and wing mirrors before setting off."
