A MAN accused of raping a woman and confessing to it when she confronted him with a hidden voice recorder will face a retrial.
Matthew Landells, 24, was acquitted of perverting the course of justice and assault after a Teesside Crown Court trial last week.
A jury could not reach a verdict on a charge of rape, and prosecutors asked for seven days to decide whether a retrial should be sought.
A date has not been fixed for the new case, and Mr Landells, of Ann Swyft Road, Newton Aycliffe, was granted bail until it is.
