TEENAGE drinkers, speeding motorists and noisy neighbours will be targeted during a five-day blitz on anti-social behaviour.

The Safe Durham Partnership is focusing its crime-fighting efforts on the South Moor area of Stanley from today. (Monday, February 18) Neighbourhood wardens and PCSOs will be carrying out extra patrols throughout the week to deal with anti-social behaviour and identify people who are allowing their dogs to foul.

PC Vicky Kerley, of Durham Police, said: “Residents have raised a number of concerns during recent PACT meetings about anti-social behaviour in the South Moor area.

“They are particularly concerned about underage drinking, untidy gardens and yards, litter in the street, speeding drivers and noisy and anti-social neighbours.

“The Week of Action will enable us to work directly with the community to try and tackle these problems and encourage people to change their behaviour.”

Partner organisations including Durham County Council, Durham Police, Stanley Town Council, Derwentside Homes, Three Rivers Housing Association and Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Services will be working together during the week of action.

There will be Community Speedwatch operations throughout the week and officers from Derwentside Homes will be contacting tenants whose yards and gardens are untidy.

Young people are also invited to attend an activity day at Westfields Park on Thursday from 11am.
