Vandals blow up family letterbox
A FAMILY were left shaken after their letter box was blown apart in what police believe was a prank gone wrong.
The family, a man and a woman and their adult son, who live in Nunnery Lane, Darlington, reported hearing a bang and seeing a blue flash.
Police believe their UPVC door and letter box were targeted by vandals, in an apparently random attack.
It caused the glass in the door to shatter, while the letter box was blown to pieces.
Inspector Kevan McCarthy, of Darlington police, said: "We believe the person responsible may have been injured by flying shards and could have substantial facial injuries as a result.
"I would ask that anyone who has information about that person come forward. We think this was a school boy prank. The family are quite shaken by it and cannot explain what has happened."
Insp McCarthy said police were checking CCTV in the area in a bid to catch the culprits involved in the incident at 12.42am in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Anyone who can help should call the non-emergency police number 101 and ask for PC 2140 Misbha Yakub.
