Spennymoor teen arrested in football violence probe

A TEENAGE boy has been arrested by police investigating a brawl between rival football fans.

The 15-year-old boy was arrested in Spennymoor, in County Durham in connection with violence before last month’s Sunderland v West Ham match.

Up to 50 fans were involved in what police believe was a pre-arranged fight outside Revolution Bar, in Low Row, Sunderland.

Earlier today (THURSDAY), police arrested a further six people on suspicion of violent disorder.

As well as the County Durham teenager, officers also detained two men, aged 51 and 28, in Houghton-le-Spring; a 26-year-old man in Gateshead; and two 16-year-old boys, one in Sunderland and one in Washington.

Since Tueday, when police issued CCTV stills of 20 people they want to question in connection with the violence, a total of 14 people have now been arrested.

Chief Superintendent Kay Blyth, Sunderland Area Commander, said the investigation was continuing and police wanted help in locating at least 13 other people in connection with the incident.

She added: " We have reason to believe some of these may have connections to the Hartlepool area and would urge anyone who recognises them to get in touch as soon as possible".
