MONEY has been pouring into a fund set up for the two young children of a policeman who was killed as he responded to a 999 call.

Big-hearted well-wishers have given more than £14,000 in memory of PC Andrew Bramma, less than a month after the appeal was launched.

The 32-year-old died on January 5 when his patrol car left the road and smashed into a tree at West Tanfield, near Ripon.

The officer, who had recently transferred to North Yorkshire from the Greater Manchester force left a widow, Kathryn, and two sons – Jack, three, and Sam, whose first birthday falls this month.

Sergeant Mike Stubbs, of the North Yorkshire Police Federation, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated so far - Andrew’s wife, Kathryn, has been overwhelmed by the level of support.

“Andrew’s colleagues at Harrogate and Ripon police stations have held cake sales which have raised almost £1,000.

“Other colleagues in both North Yorkshire Police and Greater Manchester Police are also looking at other fund raising ideas.”

Donations to the fund can be made by bank transfer to Unity Trust Bank - Sort Code 08 60 01, Account Number 20303088, Account name ‘NYPF Jack and Sam Fund’.

Alternatively cheques payable to ‘NYPF Jack and Sam Fund’ can be posted to North Yorkshire Police HQ, Newby Wiske, Northallerton, DL7 9HA or North Yorkshire Police Federation, The Police Station, Castlegate, Knaresborough, HG5 8AR.
